Copeland to Showcase Solutions to Support the HVACR Energy Transition at Chillventa

Copeland’s booth at Chillventa 2024

AACHEN, Germany (September 20, 2024) — Copeland, a global provider of sustainable climate solutions, announced it will showcase its latest industry-leading technologies that support the global energy transition across heating, cooling, refrigeration and industrial applications at the 2024 Chillventa international exhibition from October 8 to 10 in Nuremberg, Germany.

Copeland supports three global megatrends: energy transition through electrification of heating demand, adoption of natural and low-GWP refrigerants, and safeguarding perishable goods through an efficient and sustainable cold chain. Chillventa will be Copeland’s first presence at a large global industry trade show as a stand-alone company following its split last year from Emerson and investment from Blackstone. Copeland’s booth (#320, Hall 6) will highlight how the company’s HVACR technologies, electronics and controls support the electrification of heating, demand response/efficiency and renewable energy.

The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change found that the global temperature is already 1.1° C above pre-industrial levels and Earth is likely to reach the critical 1.5° C tipping point as early as 2035. One of the greatest opportunities for decarbonization is to accelerate the electrification of heating. Copeland has a breadth of heat pump technologies across its residential, commercial and industrial segments designed to address this goal.

Copeland offers a complete range of innovative refrigeration solutions optimized for natural and low-GWP refrigerants carbon dioxide/CO2 (R-744) and propane (R-290) and for low-global warming potential (GWP) A2L alternatives. Copeland’s commercial refrigeration portfolio on display at Chillventa will meet the needs of different store formats and include solutions for centralized and decentralized architectures as well as integral display case architectures.

The company’s offerings are vital to creating options that are energy-efficient and help to meet the requirements for a lower-carbon heating, cooling and refrigeration solution.

Some of the Copeland products that will be on display at Chillventa in support of these efforts include:

  • Heating – Sound plays a key role, with 75% of Europeans living in urban areas. Copeland is further enhancing its low-sound compressor for residential heat pumps to meet that need, while increasing efficiency and enabling the use of natural and low-GWP refrigerants. The company will showcase its first variable speed R-290 compressor for commercial heat pumps which was launched earlier this year.  Additionally, Copeland will highlight the brand new VQ95 industrial heat pump from Vilter, a single-stage heat pump designed to decarbonize heating in industrial process heating applications, including food and beverage production, and in district heating.
  • Cooling – Copeland’s oil-free centrifugal compressor with Aero-lift™ bearing technology will showcase efficiency in air-cooled chillers and heat recovery applications with low-GWP refrigerants; it’s proven to withstand sudden power interruptions.

  • Refrigeration – The company has a variety of solutions for food retail and food service that enable the use of CO2, A2Ls and R-290, as well as flexible architectures. The Copeland R-290 horizontal scroll compressor for integral display cases enables a plug-and-play installation, reducing the shutdown times of supermarkets and increasing shop design flexibility. The Copeland CO2 scroll compressor for transcritical applications will emphasize high efficiency with a simplified design.

  • Comfort controls – Copeland’s portfolio of residential and commercial comfort controls, such as the Verdant VX4 smart thermostat, will be on display. It offers a plug-and-play solution for new construction and retrofits and can reduce HVAC run times by up to 45%, saving 15 to 20% on energy bills on average.

In addition, Grant Kovac representing the industrial compression and Vilter brand at Copeland will lead an educational session at Chillventa, “A Scalable Approach for High-Temperature Heat Pumps in District Heating Applications” on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10:00 to 10:20 a.m. local time in Room #129 of the Forum Refrigeration Hall 7A. This presentation will provide detailed insights into new industrial heat pump technologies.
