Smart innovations and solutions designed for industries critical to the world’s food supply, energy and productivity.
Environmentally Responsible Refrigerants
Creating an optimal environment – for the places we live and work, for our planet, even for our food – is an intricate fusion of comfort, precise reliability and efficiency. Emerson’s Copeland business has led the way in striking this balance, reinforcing a legacy as an industry-recognized source of inventive and practical heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) technologies and integrated solutions.
We combine our proven compressor experience, robust technology portfolio, deep industry expertise and unmatched technical service to sustainably deliver and maintain a stable environment. As Copeland builds on its 100-year heritage of innovation, we see new technologies and a clear path forward to help the industries we serve navigate a fast-evolving, global regulatory landscape.
There has been increasing focus on shifting all industries toward lower global-warming potential (GWP) refrigerants – used in air conditioning and refrigeration systems – in recent years. As tougher efficiency and refrigerant regulations are put into legislation to reduce environmental impact for commercial and residential cooling and refrigeration in the coming years original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), contractors and retailers are turning to partners to help implement sustainable solutions.
To address these challenges, Emerson is introducing next-generation Copeland scroll technologies that use more environmentally responsible refrigerants without compromising performance. Including the most efficient fixed speed scroll technology in the history of Copeland, these next-gen, regulation-ready compressors for residential and commercial air conditioning are optimized for use with multiple refrigerants. The new Copeland compressors will help set the industry standard for efficiency and quality while decreasing the complexity of installation.
The push for alternative approaches crosses industries. As food retail and foodservice sectors grow their emphasis on sustainable practices, we find that grocery stores, restaurants and convenience stores are also looking to implement more responsible refrigeration alternatives. To continue serving this vital sector, Emerson is introducing its Copeland digital outdoor refrigeration unit, X-Line series to fundamentally enhance long-standing industry technology. Through advanced technologies that integrate diagnostics, this energy-efficient solution will enable tighter temperature control and leverage fewer condensing units.
Innovation is core to Emerson and Copeland’s DNA. There’s no question that regulations will continue to shift – and OEMs, contractors and retailers must be ready for whatever changes may come next. Emerson will continue to drive new advances from its Emerson’s Helix Innovation Center in Dayton, Ohio, and its HVACR research labs in Sidney, Ohio. This hub of HVACR technology labs will enable Emerson to create and test new innovations in entirely new ways.
The Helix Innovation Center features full-scale, real-life physical environments – including a working commercial kitchen, two-story home and grocery store – to enable teams to do rapid prototyping and use practical applications to develop and test potential new solutions for enhancing residential and commercial building controls. These real-world environments will help Copeland to expedite advances, or even discover new options to improve residential and commercial air conditioning and refrigeration solutions.
Air conditioning and refrigeration largely happen behind the scenes, but as the world necessarily shifts toward more sustainable solutions, the technologies that are integral to modern life are taking center stage. We see Copeland continuing to lead the way toward a more innovative future.
